How to Break into the International Market
One of the most frequent questions I get asked as a business coach is how to break into the international market. Depending on the type of business you run, you may desire to serve clients who are not located in your local area. You may desire to have an international brand. And even with a social media presence, many are still struggling to break into these markets.
I must say though, that it is easy for some then others based on their locations, but it is certainly not impossible to achieve. Here are some things to take into consideration when you are ready to break into the International Market
1. Do your Research
This is the cornerstone of where you must begin. If the market you are trying to break into is quite similar to yours then half your job is done, but if not, then you have your work to do. Simple things like a difference in time zone, language barriers and even payment options can be a deterrent into getting into a new market.
Do your research by looking at companies who are already in the market. Take note of any trends or similarities. Take note of any missing gaps that might exist. Pay close attention to how they share, how they speak, where they share and even how they sell.
2. Optimise your social media and website
Think about how those people in these new markets will find you. On your social media and website and even in your blogs, state specifically who you want to serve. Make sure your social media can easily be found by your new audience. Your ads should also be targeted to this new audience. And your message should be shared where this new audience thrives.
You should be able to gather a lot of this information from the research that you have initially done. Let your social media and website reflect the people and areas you want to serve
3. Use your hashtags and keywords wisely
Jumping off the conversation about social media and your website, is your use of hashtags and keywords. This really affects your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and makes it easier for you to be found on Google and other platforms. Use words that are relatable and searchable by your new audience.
Hashtags which are so popular on Instagram and Linkedin will help position you directly in front of your new audience when used correctly
4. Collaborate with others in the market
One of the easiest and fastest ways to break into a new market is thru collaborations. Through your research, identify companies or persons who already have a foothold in the space you desire to be in. Reach out to them and propose a working relationship that would be beneficial to both parties.
You can:
- Host a series of virtual events together
- Interview each other on podcasts/ or just be featured sharing value
- Become a guest blogger on their site and lead their readers to your site
5. Set up an easy payment method
Sometimes the only reason, people from another market do not buy from you is because there is not an easy way to pay you for your goods or services. People want ease of transactions. So, make sure it is easy. Today, you have so many choices to choose from like
- Payoneer (This is a referral link, therefore I will receive a payment if you use it)
- BuzzPay
- WiPay
- Paypal
Choose one that best suits your business model and make buying from you as easy as a click of a button.
