Marketing Is Like A Dating App

Marketing is like a dating app

Marketing and dating apps have a lot more in common than one might think. Both are about presenting yourself in the best light possible and trying to attract the attention of potential customers or partners. And if you need a perfect example of how marketing is like a dating app, look no further than the Indian Matchmaker on Netflix.

If you haven’t seen the show, let me break it down for you. It’s a reality TV show where a professional matchmaker helps Indian singles find love and marriage. The matchmaker, Sima Taparia, uses a combination of traditional Indian matchmaking methods and modern dating apps to find compatible matches for her clients. And watching the show, it’s clear that marketing and dating apps work in very similar ways.

ATTRACTION AND ENGAGEMENT

First, let’s talk about Tinder. The most popular dating app in the world is all about first impressions. In just a few seconds, you need to convince someone to swipe right on your profile and start a conversation. This is exactly what marketing is like. You have a very short amount of time to grab someone’s attention and convince them to take action, whether that’s buying your product, signing up for your service, or just checking out your website. Your ideal client is bombarded daily both off and online with a barrage of information, services, and offers and as an entrepreneur, you need to decide how do I show up, to not just attract their attention but keep them engaged when they stop to view my offers. Marketing is the attraction phase of your sales funnel and it is one of the most important steps in building a successful business.

How you attract them can include many different things like:

  1. A compelling video
  2. An irresistible offer
  3. An anecdote or tip
  4. A story
  5. A picture

The main component of all of this is ensuring your messaging and your presentation, make your audience stop in their tracks and engage with your business.

In Indian Matchmaker, Sima Taparia is like a professional Tinder profile writer. She helps her clients present themselves in the best light possible, highlighting their best qualities and downplaying any potential negatives. Just like how you might carefully choose your profile pictures or write a witty bio to make yourself stand out on Tinder.

IDEAL CLIENTS

The second example is Hinge, a dating app that’s all about making meaningful connections. Hinge encourages users to answer a series of questions about themselves, which are then used to match them with compatible partners. This is similar to how marketing works when it comes to understanding your target audience. You need to know who your customers are, what they want, and what motivates them to make a purchase.

Your marketing is more successful when you have a clear idea of who your ideal clients are. The goal is not to attract the most amount of people but to attract the best people. Think quality over quantity. With the best quality people, it is easier to convert cold leads to warm and hot leads. Your messaging and your presentation of your business should speak directly to your ideal clients at all times.

Sima Taparia uses a similar approach when it comes to Indian Matchmaker. She spends time getting to know her clients and their families, learning about their values, beliefs, and goals. This allows her to make more informed matchmaking decisions and find truly compatible partners.

In Indian Matchmaker, Sima Taparia often gives her clients advice on how to approach their potential partners and make a good impression. She encourages them to be confident and assertive, while also being respectful and considerate. By giving her clients the tools they need to take control of their own dating lives, Sima is empowering them to make their own decisions and find happiness on their terms.

In conclusion, marketing and dating apps have a lot more in common than you might think. Both are about presenting yourself in the best possible light, understanding your target audience, and empowering your customers to make their own decisions. So the next time you’re swiping through Tinder or watching Indian Matchmaker on Netflix, remember that you’re actually learning some valuable marketing lessons. And who knows, maybe you’ll even find your perfect match in the process.
